Can you name 100 car brands?
Everyone can name the badge in the driveway. Fewer people can retrieve a hundred makers with the showroom closed. The first twenty are living-room furniture. Then you remember a grille and cannot retrieve the name on it.
This is that blank list. Type the brand; Wikidata checks whether it is an automobile manufacturer. “Camry” is a model. “Car” is not a brand. Shared format: What is the Name 100 challenge?.
The brand, not the model
“Toyota” counts. “Camry” does not. Defunct badges can pass if Wikidata still files them as a manufacturer. A motorcycle-only name usually fails.
What counts
- Type the brand — “Toyota”, “Ford”, “BMW”.
- Automobile manufacturers in Wikidata count. Model names and the word “car” do not.
- Each brand once. Another spelling of the same Wikidata entry is rejected.
- No hard cutoff. Timer starts on your first submit. Finish anytime, or the round ends at 100.
How to Play
- Type a car brand in English and submit.
- We check Wikidata for automobile manufacturers — not every vehicle name.
- Aim for 100 unique brands. The timer runs up — no sudden cutoff.
- Hit Finish anytime to share your score.
Showroom, then the leftovers
Sweep the driveway brands first, then luxury, then the ones that folded. After Toyota and Ford, force a pass of European names and a pass of defunct badges (Saab, Pontiac). “Camry” is a model — it fails.
Frequently Asked Questions
What car brands count?
Wikidata entities typed as an automobile manufacturer — and some subclasses of that. Use the common English brand name.
Do model names count?
No. Camry, Civic, and Mustang are models. Here you want Toyota, Honda, Ford.
Do defunct brands count?
Yes, if Wikidata still files them as an automobile manufacturer. Pontiac, Saab, and Oldsmobile can pass.
Do motorcycle or truck makers count?
Only if Wikidata also files that name as an automobile manufacturer. A bike-only badge usually fails.
Why was my name rejected?
Often it is a model, the word “car”, an airline, or a nickname the English label does not use. Try the name on the grille.
Is there a time limit?
No hard cutoff. Race yourself with an upward-running timer.
Is this challenge free?
Yes. Free in the browser, no signup.
