How to play
You have a timer. Type every sport you can think of — in English, one name at a time. Each correct sport adds a point. The same sport only counts once (type "football" and "soccer" and you still get one slot). When you are done, hit Finish and share your score.
This is a list of sports challenge — athletes and leagues are for another round. Looking for a longer list of sport types to study first? Scan the strategy section below.
What counts
- Type the English name of a sport — “basketball”, “fencing”, “surfing”.
- Physical sports with rules count. Chess, esports, and brand names do not.
- Each sport once. Soccer and football count as the same sport.
- Common short names (MMA, F1) count when they are in our list. Timer runs up from your first submit.
Athletes and leagues are for another round — "NBA" is not a sport; "basketball" is.
How to beat the clock
Sweep the Olympics first — summer track, swim, gym, then winter ski and skate. Ball games next: football, basketball, cricket, tennis. Then combat, water, motorsport, and the oddballs: kabaddi, curling, trampoline.
- Olympics first — summer track, swim, gym, fencing, judo; then winter ski, skate, curl, bobsled.
- Ball games — football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, cricket, rugby, hockey, golf.
- Combat & water — boxing, wrestling, rowing, surfing, diving.
- Wild cards — kabaddi, curling, trampoline, parkour, kiteboarding, handball.
Wondering how many sports are there? No official global tally — but types of sports number in the hundreds once you include Olympic disciplines and regional games. One hundred is tight but fair.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sports are there in the world?
There is no single official count. The Olympics alone has 40+ disciplines, and hundreds of sports have formal rules worldwide — so 100 is reachable but you have to think.
Is chess a sport?
Not in this round. We only count physical sports with body movement — save chess for a different list.
Does "soccer" and "football" both count?
Only once — they map to the same sport in our pool, whichever you type first.
Can I answer in Chinese or another language?
No — our list uses English sport names. Type the usual English form (basketball, not 篮球). British spellings and common aliases like soccer are fine.
Can I use abbreviations?
Sometimes — MMA, F1, and BJJ are in our list because they are common names. Random three-letter codes usually are not. When in doubt, type the full English name.
