Name 100 Fictional Characters Challenge
Can you name 100 fictional characters? Switch to Women only or Men only for a harder list. Free recall quiz — checked live against Wikidata.
All / Women only / Men only
What counts: Character names — Hermione Granger works. The book, the actor, Hogwarts, and most gods do not.

No wiki tab. No actor. The character.
Everyone can picture a character. Fewer people can retrieve a hundred names without a franchise wiki open. The first twenty are easy — the hero you grew up with, last year’s villain, a sidekick you still quote. Then the list stalls on one-season TV names and the friend standing next to the hero in the poster.
This is not a “who is this?” picture quiz. Type the usual English character name. Wikidata has to record them as a fictional character. Shared format: What is the Name 100 challenge?
Character name vs the work
“Hermione Granger” and “Darth Vader” count. The book title, the film title, and the actor do not. Hogwarts is a place — it fails. Zeus often fails because Wikidata files him as a deity, not a character. Pokémon species belong on Name 100 Pokémon. Movie titles belong on Name 100 Movies. The work on the spine belongs on Try: Name 100 Books. Costume heroes have their own list: Try: Name 100 Superheroes. Anime and manga names have theirs: Try: Name 100 Anime Characters. Disney and Pixar names: Try: Name 100 Disney Characters.
Women only or Men only
Want it harder? Switch to Women only — no male characters allowed. Can you still name 100 fictional women from books, movies, TV and games?
Want dedicated lists? Play Name 100 Fictional Women or Name 100 Fictional Men— same rules, one gender locked, no filter switch. Gender comes from Wikidata, not the letters in the name. Real women and men belong on those lists, not here.
What counts
- The character’s usual English name — not the book, the film, or the actor.
- Film, book, comics, game, TV, and superhero characters in Wikidata. Places and real people do not count.
- Each character once. Another spelling of the same Wikidata entry is rejected.
- No hard 5-minute cutoff. Timer starts on your first submit. Finish anytime, or the round ends at 100.
How to Play
- Type a fictional character’s English name and submit.
- We check Wikidata in real time — fictional characters, or Women only / Men only if you switch the filter.
- Aim for 100 unique characters. The timer runs up — no sudden cutoff.
- Hit Finish anytime to share your character-quiz score.
Franchise by franchise
Sweep Marvel, then Ghibli, then Potter, then one game series you actually finished. After tentpole heroes, force a pass of villains and a pass of sidekicks — those two lists are where most people still have unused names. Use the name the character is filed under, not the performer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What fictional characters count?
Wikidata entities typed as fictional characters — film, book, comics, game, TV, superhero, and similar. Places, book titles, and real people do not count.
Do mythological figures count?
Only if Wikidata files that exact name as a fictional character. Many gods and folklore figures will fail — they are often catalogued as deities, not characters.
Can I play with fictional women or men only?
Yes — use the All / Women only / Men only switch above the game. Women only and Men only use Wikidata gender (P21), not a guess from the name. Real people belong on the women and men challenges.
Is this the same as name 100 anime characters?
No. This list is any fictional character Wikidata files that way. Anime and manga only belong on Name 100 Anime Characters — a narrower blank list.
Can I enter Pokémon or movie titles?
A Pokémon species belongs on the Pokémon challenge. A movie title belongs on Movies. Here you want the character. “Spirited Away” should fail; “Pikachu” may pass only if Wikidata also lists it as a character.
Why was my name rejected?
Usually it is a place (Hogwarts), a book or film title, an actor, a real person, or a mythological figure filed as a deity. On Women only or Men only, the character also needs that Wikidata gender. Try the character’s standard English name.
Is this a character quiz or a picture quiz?
Recall only. No silhouettes, no “who is this?” stills. You type the name; we check the graph.
Is there a time limit?
No hard cutoff. The timer runs up so you can race yourself.
Is this challenge free?
Yes. Free in the browser, no signup.
