Can you name 100 Pokemon?

Can you name 100 Pokemon from memory with the Pokédex closed? Every fan has done a version of this on a long car ride: phone face-down, no National Dex, see how many names come out before the car goes quiet. Sprite quizzes feel too easy. “Name every Pokémon” spreadsheets feel like homework. This name 100 Pokemon challenge sits in the middle — type a species, get an instant Wikidata check, and watch where your memory actually stops.

Shared rules for every category are on What is the Name 100 challenge?. Trainers, moves, and items belong somewhere else. So do fictional characters who happen to live in the same games. Game titles belong on Try: Name 100 Video Games.

What this quiz is not

It is not “who is that Pokémon?” with a silhouette. It is not a living dex. It is not Gen 1 only — later species count when Wikidata has them. Fan spellings and GO nicknames usually fail. Pikachu works. “Pika” does not.

How fast can you name 100 Pokémon?

Most runs open with starters, Kanto legendaries, and whatever you main. The stall hits hard after 30–40 names — fossils, regional leftovers, something you only scrolled past once. A full 100 is a long recall, not a 60-second sprite sprint. There is no hard cutoff. The timer runs up from your first submit so you can race a previous Finish time, not a fake fail at 5:00.

What counts

  • Common English species names — “Pikachu”, “Charizard”, “Lucario”.
  • Fan nicknames, moves, items, and trainer names do not count.
  • Each species once. Another spelling of the same Wikidata entry is rejected.
  • No Pokédex and no hard cutoff. Timer starts on your first submit. Finish anytime, or the round ends at 100.

How to Play

  1. Type an English Pokémon name and press Go / Enter.
  2. We check Wikidata in real time — only Pokémon entities count.
  3. Build toward 100 unique species. The timer runs up (no sudden game-over).
  4. Hit Finish anytime to share your Pokémon quiz score.

A sweep that actually unlocks names

Open with Gen 1 starters and birds, then Eeveelutions, fossils, and legendary quartets. Once the easy cluster dries up, walk generation by generation instead of staring at a blank box. Saying names out loud often pulls the next species faster than typing silence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Pokémon count in this quiz?

Pokémon species and related Pokémon entities in Wikidata. Use the common English name. Nicknames, moves, items, and trainer names do not count.

Does this include every generation?

If Wikidata has the species, it can count — including later-generation Pokémon. Coverage depends on Wikidata’s English labels, not a fixed Gen 1-only list.

Why was my Pokémon name rejected?

Usually spelling, a nickname, or a non-Pokémon entity. Try the standard English species name (for example “Mr. Mime” vs a fan spelling).

Is this a name 100 Pokémon quiz?

Yes — a recall quiz, not multiple choice. You type species names; Wikidata confirms them. No sprites to pick from.

How fast can I name 100 Pokemon?

The clock runs up with no sudden fail — there is no 5-minute or 10-minute cutoff. A complete 100 usually takes several minutes once Gen 1 dries up; use Finish to save a partial time.

Can I name all Pokémon with pictures?

Not here. This is a blank-list recall quiz, not a “who is that Pokémon?” silhouette or picture quiz. You type the English name; we do not show sprites to pick from.

Name 100 Pokémon challenge — what's the rule?

Type English species names from memory until you hit 100 or Finish. Wikidata checks each name. The timer runs up. Trainers, moves, and items do not count.

Do regional forms and megas count separately?

Only if Wikidata treats that search as its own accepted Pokémon entity. The safe play is the base English species name.

Is the Name 100 Pokémon challenge free?

Yes. Free Pokémon naming quiz — no signup required.
